– Orreco joins ranks of Irish companies succeeding in US, says Enterprise Ireland CEO, Julie Sinnamon

Enterprise Ireland CEO Julie Sinnamon today opened the new Los Angeles office of Irish sports data, biomarker and performance experts Orreco.

The Galway-headquartered company’s new high-tech office is set within the campus of Sports Rehab Los Angeles, one of America’s most high-profile sports training and recovery centres.

Sports Rehab LA has some of the most famous sports stars in the US on its books including the biggest names in basketball, American football and the English Premier League.

Clients from the world of entertainment include entertainer Sean ‘P Diddy’ Coombs and Hollywood actor Kevin Hart.

Orreco uses machine intelligence to find hidden signals in data including GPS and performance statistics to help improve athletic performance and reduce the incidence of illness and injury.

Enterprise Ireland was an early stage investor in Orreco and Ms Sinnamon, who is in Los Angeles as part of a four-day trade mission, said she was delighted to visit and officially open the facility, which will allow Orreco to serve its growing roster of elite US athletes and international sports stars.

Commenting, she said:

“I am delighted to join the Orreco team today to celebrate the opening of their new office in Los Angeles. Orreco now joins the list of over 180 Enterprise Ireland-supported companies which have opened a new office in the USA in the past five years. Irish companies now operate in all 50 states and across a broad range of industries – in fact 81,000 people in the USA are employed by Enterprise Ireland client companies like Orreco. I would like to congratulate the team here on progressively evolving and responding to market opportunities, which have paved the way to this milestone.”

In recent weeks Orreco has signed contracts with 15 National Basketball Association (NBA) players from multiple NBA franchises to Orreco’s sports scientific consultancy offering.

These consultancy services include its advanced biomarker blood testing programme, University of Houston / NASA Immunology protocols, advanced sleep analysis, custom nutrition, accelerometery and bespoke compression garment fitting to assist recovery and psychomotor vigilance testing to help assess fatigue analysis.

Ms Sinnamon was accompanied by Seán Davis, Enterprise Ireland’s executive vice-president North America, Paul Burfield, senior vice-president for West & Southern United States and Robert O’Driscoll Ireland’s San-Francisco-based Consul General.

Orreco’s actionable data products have already gained significant traction with clients and professional sports stars in Formula 1, on the PGA tour, and with players and teams in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and Olympic sports.

Co-founder Dr. Brian Moore and Orreco scientists will be based at the centre to oversee athlete support work. He said: “The high-performance centre is where NFL, NBA and EPL players go in the off-season to prepare and condition themselves so it’s very exciting that we are working there too. Today is a proud day and I am honoured to welcome Julie Sinnamon and her senior Enterprise Ireland team to open our new offices. We are extremely grateful for the support that Enterprise Ireland has given to us on our journey so far.”

He spoke as Orreco, whose investors include pro-golfers Padraig Harrington and Graeme McDowell, launched a ground-breaking partnership with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) to promote the new FitrWoman app. FitrWoman provides personalised day-to-day evidence based training and nutrition suggestions tailored to the changing hormones in a woman’s cycle.

Dr. Brian Moore added: “Our new home here in LA and our partnerships with Dr Patrick Khaziran and Dr Andy Barr deliver a truly world leading offering for elite athletes in the United States, a very important market for us. At Orreco we work with some of the best athletes on the planet. We are also very proud of the peer reviewed research that drives our support and are constantly looking for evidence based and clinically proven technology that can help our clients get even better.”
